…pretty please make it this one!!!

So I’m hijacking my own blog a little bit because I thought I’d have some fun:

A couple of days ago, I discovered Quirky.com.

Basically, you can submit an idea to Quriky, with a 140 character tagline and a bunch of pictures/drawings, and, if you get enough votes within 30 days and they like your idea, they’ll actually produce it (and you can get some royalties)!

Well, it sounded like fun, so I submitted my Flexible Spatula!

So, here’s my CALL TO ACTION: Please go to this link: http://www.quirky.com/ideations/275496 , and vote for my idea!!!

Now, let’s be clear about somethings before you all think I’m delusional:

I know that I will not get rich off of this idea. I also know that, if this idea is chosen for production, Quirky will get a little richer off of it…and that’s all fine to me.

I love the idea of their site because it brings to market a bunch of products that would otherwise not see the light of day: I didn’t mind devoting the ~40 minutes to draw my design or the ~20 minutes to submit it to Quirky, but I would mind the huge monetary investment into developing materials, creating mold plates, and establishing a good working relationship with China!

Also, they do well playing on the fact that most people are good initiators (they can come up with a plethora of great ideas), but most are awful ‘finishers’ (as this is the part of the job that takes MUCH more work).

On top of all of that, I could, and may, also do a separate post on their website design because it really is top notch (it’s easy to use and it even has a countdown clock for your 30 days that gets as detailed as the seconds until your idea is closed for voting to add to the sense of urgency)!

So, are you feeling inventive? Submit something to Quirky!!!

That’s right, this is post #100!!!

I’d really like to take a second here to pass on a couple of things that I’ve learned, which I believe to be highly valuable:

1. You can do it! When I started this adventure, I thought “How can I come up with new stuff every day? How can I continuously find products and services which are broken (or really great) to write about every single day?”. I honestly never thought that I’d make it more than 20 days tops. What I found was amazing: When I set my mind to look for products and services which had features which were blog-worthy, examples just started coming out of the woodwork…and I really think you can use this to your advantage. For example, if you want to be a more positive person, you could try to blog about 2 great things that happened to you each day: much like my quest for products and services, I think you’d find that positive experiences start practically jumping at you!

2. …and this is the big one: It has all been done before – but it has not yet been done your way.

For example: if you sell beets, then sell beets, but make sure you do it in a spectacular and different way – in your own way! I’m a firm believer that you should strive to do everything your own way because you’re the only person who can do it that way the most effectively and in the most authentic manner.

A couple of days ago, I was encouraging someone to start up a food blog and write a recipe e-book. They were dissuaded because “It has been done before, there are a million other books out there, and you can find  a lot of this stuff for free online anyway.” This is all true, but her recipe book has never been seen before, it is like no other recipe book, and you can’t get it for free anywhere.

Our work is as unique as its creator, and we really need to take that truth at face value. We all have something to contribute, and we can all do it in a 100% unique way.

What do you do on a daily basis that you could not just merely do, but really start to own?

Once you find the answer to that question, and adjust your focus and efforts accordingly, I bet you’ll start to be a whole lot happier!

Thanks for all of the love and support through the first hundred posts of this blogging adventure!!!

Well, I had another post all ready to go today, when this question hit me.

What single thing would increase your workplace satisfaction the most?

I’d love to get your feedback, so please go to the this link and answer this one question survey!

Please feel free to be irrational, if that is your honest answer (If you wish you had an unlimited supply of free pop and hamburgers while you were at work, so be it). Be open-minded, be creative, and really think about what thing would really make you the happiest you could be at work.

I will make a post tomorrow or early next week with the results (once we get a substantial number of results, anyway.

Thanks everyone!!!
